Maxillaria tenuifolia aurea 'Yamada'

species - Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rice

This is the yellow (aurea) version of the very popular and easy growing Maxillaria usually seen in reddish brown-brown. It's the Coconut Pie orchid!

It can be mounted on cork or treefern, but can be grown in a hanging basket as well. It grows in shady to bright indirect light (but is stronger in brighter light) and in cool to warm temperatures. We have many in a greenhouse that drops to 40 degrees at night while others grow with night temps of 65 degrees. It usually blooms Spring to Summer and is recommended to have a drier rest after flowering. The flowers are about 1.5 to 2" in size.
